Nauvoo

Last weekend we took a little trip to visit some good friends, the Kelleys, and Nauvoo. Mark and Susanne were leaders at the Singles Branch at church when I first came to Purdue. They were like second parents for many a lowly freshman, including me. Last year they moved to Macomb, IL, which is conveniently only an hour from the Nauvoo temple.

The Kelleys gladly watched Mia while Kris and I did a session in the temple. Being a beautiful Saturday and the beginning of Spring Break for many, there were several weddings. I counted at least three. We luckily were squeezed into the 10:00 session and got out just in time for lunch.

The Kelleys took Mia to see the horses and oxen while we were in the temple.
If you look closely you can see Mia holding onto the oxen horn. That girl has no fear.

Mia was not cooperating for a good picture, so this is the best we got.

The Kelleys kindly treated us to lunch in Keokuk, IA and then we headed back to Nauvoo to visit some of the historical homes. We visited the Browning home (gun maker), Scovil Bakery (got a cookie), and the Living History building where we learned how to make rope among other things.

Here we are making rope.

We stopped at a little roadside waterfall for a couple minutes.

Mia really enjoyed the stairs in the Kelley's apartment.
On the way home we stopped at a roadside park and let Mia stretch her legs a while.

We didn't think she would know what to do with this, but as soon as Kris put her on she started rocking. She thought it was pretty fun.

A big thank you to Mark and Sus for letting us stay at your place and for taking us to Nauvoo. It was a great weekend and we loved seeing you guys.
